Monday 16 December. Black Bean Cafe Day

I had another lazy day drifting around Kuching and alighting upon the Black Bean Cafe for two of their delicious capuccinos. I wandered around the old bus station area just beyond India Street seeing if I could get information on the bus to Kubah. The information place that I had gone to a few years before seemed to have disappeared and the bus to Kubah appeared transformed from unreliable to non-existent. At least that made my mind up to take advantage of the hotel's shuttle option which, though a tiny bit more expensive than a Grab taxi, seemed more likely to get me back.
The Black Bean is a tiny place in Carpenter Street with two main tables outside and a few more seats at the pavement and inside. It has a tremendous laid back atmosphere like, I have come to recognise, much of the old Kuching. If I could drink infinite coffee, I'd stay their an infinite time. But two of their strong coffees is enough and so I slowly made my way back.

On the way back, I was struck by the patient fisher sitting in the river. It looks idyllic but that's easy to say in a glance.

In the evening, I had planned to go to The Reef, a restaurant that I had noticed on my wanderings. It turned out Monday was its day off and its grill was indisputably lowered. A hastily assembled Plan B took me to the James Brooke which stands out on the riverside. It was a perfectly pleasant meal but definitely not exceptional. The restaurant seemed ton be pitched at the Western visitors and I probably would have been better off going to one of the local stalls along the river front - The only hesitation being that they all seemed completely devoted to meat.
All in all, a very nice relaxed day and one which I thought marked a complete acclimatization to the new time zone and temperatures. I also added to the examples of puns that seemed all around me.
